When the process of anointing is over, the Gospel and the Apostle are read and, together with these prayers, a small bunch of hair is cut off from the child. To sign that the baby has become a Christian, they put a cross around his neck. A lock of cut hair remains in the church as a sign of dedication, and symbolizes sacrifice to God. When the baptismal ceremony ends, the godparents accept the baby from the hands of the priest. For this reason, godparents are often referred to as recipients. After they take the child in their arms after the completion of the ceremony, they undertake to raise the baby in the Orthodox spirit for the rest of their lives.
