Removing and eliminating black mold in the bathroom

There are different types of mold: black, green, blue and white. Black appears more often in the bathroom. You can get rid of it using professional chemicals and folk remedies using improvised means.

The appearance of mold is not a consequence of poor cleaning. A humid environment in the bathroom promotes the development of fungus. All that remains is to figure out how to scrub the affected area.

From bathtubs and other plumbing fixtures

If removal is required specifically from plumbing fixtures, then you can cope with the fungus:

  1. Vinegar (9%) - apply using a spray bottle to areas covered with mold, let it sit for an hour, and then wash off with a sponge and warm water.
  2. Hydrogen peroxide: thoroughly wipe all affected areas with a peroxide-soaked napkin; after an hour, wipe the areas with a damp cloth.
  3. Soda - a tablespoon of soda is diluted in a glass of water, then the places where mold has formed are treated with this solution. After complete drying, wipe off the remaining solution with a damp sponge.

With bath curtain

To get rid of mold on the curtains in the bathroom, just wash them. And it is advisable to do this once a week to avoid the problem in the future.

  1. The type of washing depends on the material of the curtain. Typically, information about washing capabilities is located on the product label or on the product packaging.
  2. Some curtains can be cleaned by hand, while others can be machine washed. Not all curtains can be washed with products containing chlorine. But manufacturers have long invented various chlorine-free cleaners that do the job.
  3. Polyethylene products can only be washed by hand, while polyester and vinyl products can be machine washed. To clean them, use regular powder.

From tiles and joints between tiles

To clean tiles, the same methods are used as when fighting mold on plumbing fixtures. A great way is tea tree oil.

The seam treatment is slightly different. To clean them, careful processing and preliminary preparation will be required.

  1. Determine the location of contamination.
  2. Use sandpaper to sand this area and the area around it.
  3. Apply white to the cleaned seams. The product needs to be heated with a regular hairdryer to completely remove traces of fungus.
  4. After the seam has warmed up, you need to cover it with a new grout mixture.
  5. To prevent the reappearance of mold, the coated areas are coated with colorless varnish.

Such careful treatment of the seams will help cope with any type of mold.

Remedies for mold in the bathroom

If fungus does appear on the walls and plumbing, this is not a reason to carry out general renovations or look for a new apartment. Ways to deal with such troubles already exist.

Folk

The products on store shelves do an excellent job. But what about people with allergies or asthma? Folk recipes that are no less effective in destroying bacteria will help.

  1. Tea tree oil. Tea tree oil in the amount of two teaspoons is diluted in 400 ml of warm water. Next, the solution is applied to the affected areas using a spray bottle. There is no need to rinse off, and you should not wet the area for 12 hours.
  2. Vinegar with soda. For this method, you need to sprinkle baking soda on the problem areas, then sprinkle vinegar on top to start the reaction. As soon as the foam settles, the resulting mixture is removed using a soap solution or any detergent and warm water.
  3. Borax. Dissolve 1 cup of borax in 3 liters of water. Use the resulting solution to wipe the areas where black mold is located in the bathroom. At the end of the procedure, there is no need to wash off anything; just walk with a dry cloth in the areas where the borax was applied to remove excess moisture.
  4. Iodine and camphor balls. If the development of microorganisms has just begun, then iodine diluted with water and placed around the room will help. Or camphor balls that are placed around the bathroom.

Household chemicals

If none of the residents of the apartment or house have allergies or diseases associated with the respiratory tract, then use a mold remover in the bathroom from household chemical stores, which can easily cope with the task.

Most Popular:

  1. Products containing chlorine or chlorine powder – White, Abedis o6. Such preparations can easily cope with mold. You just need to treat the affected area with bleach dissolved in water, or a product containing it, and after 30 minutes, rinse the area with water. The big disadvantage is the pungent odor of these substances, so after treatment, the room must be well ventilated.
  2. Special means – Olympus stop, Fongifluid Alpa. Store shelves sell products that were invented specifically to fight mold. You must carefully read the instructions or seek help from consultants. Lesions on the ceiling, walls, bathtubs and other places are removed in different ways, using different chemicals; a competent sales consultant will advise the appropriate product that is best to clean the fungus in the bathroom.
  3. Antiseptic - Metas - BIO, NANO-FIX, SCHIMMEL-ENTFERNER. They are alcohol or oil based and sometimes include turpentine. All drugs can equally well remove pathogenic bacteria and fungi. But they have a strong and pungent odor, which can be removed by ventilation.

Causes of mold

When starting to fight mold, you need to find out the reasons for its appearance, so as not to repeat mistakes in the future.

Common causes of mold growth:

  1. Poor ventilation.
  2. No heated towel rail or poor performance.
  3. Leaking plumbing.
  4. Not insulated walls.

These are the four main problems that contribute to the development of “disease”. Of course, it is better to prevent the appearance of mold, that is, to engage in prevention. But it doesn’t always come to mind on time.

Mold Prevention

  • Eliminate faulty plumbing to avoid leaks.
  • The heated towel rail must work properly all year round; for the summer, a special electric version is installed.
  • A damp room needs constant ventilation. If there is no hood in the room, ventilation of the room is achieved by opening the doors.
  • The premises should be cleaned regularly.
  • It is necessary to take prompt action at the first signs of the appearance of lesions.

Constant preventive surface treatment will prevent microorganisms from developing.

  1. One of the main tips is safety. Rubber gloves are worn when treating surfaces, and after all procedures the room must be ventilated.
  2. When processing in the bathroom, you should not use water; during this period, the appearance of moisture must be completely eliminated.

If you get rid of the fungus and do not take measures to prevent relapses, the harmful bacteria will not retreat.

Finding mold in the bathroom is an unpleasant fact, but if you know how to remove it, then it is no longer so scary. And if you adhere to the rules for using the bathroom, then the problem of fungus formation will not bother you.
