Combined bathroom design: Tips and ready-made layouts

Often on the forums, you can see fierce battles going on between lovers of separate amenities and combined bathrooms. Of course, both sides make compelling arguments. But they come to an agreement on two points. The first says that if more than three people live in an apartment, then the combination of a toilet and a bathroom will not bring joy and convenience to anyone. And you need to consider other options for expansion through a utility room or corridor. It is quite possible to identify the same washing machine in the kitchen or in the pantry. And the second point of "consent": if there were extra square meters, then the apartment would have a combined bathroom and a guest toilet. So, let's talk about the design of the combined bathroom.

But if you take on the creation of a single bathroom, then it is better to immediately re-plan communications and sew them up with false walls with access to risers and meters. This can be done with wall cabinets, shutter doors, small plastic windows, etc. Prior to this stage, it is necessary to carefully consider the interior of the combined bathroom, which allows you to maximally accommodate plumbing products and household appliances.

What household and plumbing fixtures can be seen in such bathrooms? This is a regular, angular, non-standard bathtub; shower cubicle with standard bathtub; shower with a drain system directly on the floor; the toilet is a usual one with a cistern or with a flush system sewn into the wall, floor and hanging. Often, the washing machine is built under the sink or placed with the boiler in a closet. Combined bathrooms often sport corner or angled plumbing fixtures.

Combined bathroom layout

Here are some practical layouts for these bathrooms. Usually, if the door is located in a wide wall, then a bath / shower cabin is installed to the right or left of it. If the opening is on the narrow side, then a place for the bath is allocated at the end of the room.

Wall, ceiling and floor decoration also has its own characteristics. Most often, small ceramic tiles are used for walls and floors. The best choice is 20x30 cm, as small as possible, up to the mosaic. In a combined bathroom, the interior is often based on a quarterly delineation of functional areas: bath / shower, toilet, washbasin, cabinets / niches. Therefore, the following technique is common. Often one zone is highlighted in bright color, while others are decorated in neutral shades with a bright border. Sometimes only areas exposed to constant exposure to water are highlighted with tiles, and all others - with moisture-resistant paint. It is recommended not to use shades that are too dark, because bathroom procedures often require bright lighting. It is better to install an additional spotlight if you want to rest your eyes while taking a bath. The ceilings are usually stretched or made of PVC panels. The door and moisture-resistant bathroom furniture should either be in harmony or contrast with the color of the walls. Chromed corners, glass shelves, frosted glass cabinets are often used. They try to match accessories to the walls or cabinets (you can decorate the bathroom with a beautiful wicker basket, an original rug or towel, a photo under glass). The floor is made of non-slippery tiles; dark, contrasting shades are often used.
