Easy and quick installation of the bathroom door: 3 types of sizes

Owners of houses or apartments have to deal with installing doors during renovation and construction. During installation, you should take into account the increased level of humidity in the bathroom in order to avoid mistakes that inexperienced home craftsmen sometimes make. The installation of the door to the bathroom can be carried out both before the start of finishing work, and after their completion. If the measurements and installation work are made correctly, the door will be used for a long time without requiring replacement.

What are the sizes of doors to the bathroom and toilet

When buying a finished door assembly with a door frame, be sure to find out the dimensions of the opening in your apartment. Currently, most of the finished doors are sized according to European or world standards. But domestic manufacturers also produce products for apartments built more than 30 years ago, where the dimensions of the opening correspond to the Soviet guest. You can also order the manufacture of doors according to your own dimensions, if the opening is completely non-standard, but the price of such a product will be 15-30% more expensive than the finished structure.

Standard door leaf sizes:

  • 550x1900 mm;
  • 600x1900 millimeters (most often found in Soviet-built apartments);
  • 600x2000 mm.

Less often on sale you can find doors with a width of 700 to 1000 millimeters, but the height remains standard - 2000 millimeters. The minimum width of the doors in the bathrooms is six hundred millimeters.

The opening should be 50 to 100 millimeters higher than the door frame and 40 to 100 millimeters wider.

As a last resort, if the height of the doors is more than necessary, then they can be cut from below. But this applies only to products made from solid wood.

How to correctly size a bathroom door: standard

To correctly determine whether the dimensions of the opening correspond to the standard, you should carefully measure its height, width and depth.

Measurement procedure:

  1. You need to get rid of the platbands, and remove the doors from their hinges. The width is measured with a tape measure from one wall to another.
  2. The height is measured from the floor to the top of the opening. If there is a threshold, then its height should be taken into account when measuring.
  3. The depth of the opening is measured taking into account the thickness of the material with which the bathroom or toilet room is finished. Usually, the walls in the bathroom are not too thick. But do not despair if it even doubles the depth of the door frame sold in the store. To compensate for the lack of thickness, it will be possible to use an additional strip, under which there are special recesses in most door frames.

The store should also measure the door frame and door leaf if they are assembled. Because the dimensions indicated by the manufacturer may not always correspond to reality.

All measurements at home and in the store should be made with one tape measure in order to avoid errors that can be fraught with negative consequences.

Standard door leaf 600x1900 for bathroom: assembly

When buying an already assembled door frame, it remains only to securely fix it in the opening. In other cases, the home craftsman has to assemble the structure on his own. In this case, the main thing is to correctly measure, so that later the door closes and opens well.

Step-by-step assembly instructions:

  1. Racks are measured and sawn off at right angles. Their height should be 1905 millimeters (5 mm remains for the gaps at the top and bottom).
  2. The crossbars are also cut at right angles. Their length is calculated by the formula: to 600 millimeters, add 5 mm to the gaps and the thickness of the door frame profile, multiplied by 2.
  3. On the crossbars, it is necessary to cut off the protruding part of the profile, which serves as a porch for the doors.
  4. Mortise awnings or external hinges are installed. To attach them correctly, you must first trace the outline with a simple pencil.
  5. To assemble the structure, you must first drill holes from the ends, and then carefully screw the screws into the wood.

When installing awnings, remember that toilet swing doors must open outward.

The door leaf is hung after installation and complete fixation of the door frame.

How to install a bathroom door: basic nuances

It is not difficult to install the finished box in the opening yourself if you have the necessary tools and fasteners. This is a level, a screwdriver, screws, dowels, a drill and polyurethane foam, a tape measure, a carpenter's pencil. You also need to stock up on wooden spacers or wedges.

Sequence of work:

  1. The door frame must be placed exactly in line with the previously prepared opening. It is fixed and leveled with wedges and wooden spacers.
  2. Holes are drilled in the side posts and in the wall opposite them, three pieces on each side.
  3. The box must be temporarily removed, and the dowels must be fixed in the wall.
  4. The box is put in place, and self-tapping screws are screwed into it, which are firmly fixed with dowels.
  5. The empty space is filled with polyurethane foam. It is not too much to fill in, since it tends to increase in volume three times.
  6. After the foam has completely hardened (at least 12 hours), its excess must be cut off, the doors must be hung and the fittings must be attached.
  7. Then the wall can be trimmed with platbands or pasted over with wallpaper.

Professional craftsmen advise filling the cavities with foam from the bottom up. If the depth of the opening is large enough, then the operation is carried out in 2-3 steps.
