How decorative plaster is made in the bathroom

Most bathroom owners are accustomed to the fact that the walls, or at least their lower part, should be covered with ceramic tiles, and this is quite understandable - the beauty and practicality of such a material has been proven by many years of practice. In our age of rapid development of building technologies, new opportunities have opened up, and one of them is decorative plaster, which is not afraid of water, therefore it may well compete with tiles.

Below we will talk about this in more detail, and also, as a supplement, watch a thematic video in this article.

We change the image

Note. It is very possible that in this article you will not find the names of mixtures that are already familiar to you or methods of their application, but this is not a list of works and materials, a description of the possibilities. In addition, construction technologies are constantly expanding and improving, so every time there are any new moisture-repellent mixtures.

Peculiarities

  • The main distinguishing feature that all premises of this type, which we are talking about now, are endowed with is high humidity, and not just a direct hit of water on the walls, but its almost constant content in the air, which, in fact, should be focused on the specifics of all finishing materials ... Ceramic tiles do an excellent job with this; condensation can very often be seen on it, especially after using hot water for washing. If the room is equipped with good ventilation, then most of the fumes evaporate, otherwise, such dew must be wiped off with a napkin, otherwise white salt deposits accumulate on the tile over time.
  • Unlike ceramics, a smooth or embossed plaster surface is vapor-permeable, that is, the coating is able to "breathe", which means that condensation will not collect on the walls and ceiling. Thanks to this feature, the mirrors in the bathroom do not fog up, which creates additional comfort when using the bathroom. In addition, the frozen mixture has no prerequisites for the formation and life of microorganisms, which include fungus and mold.

What fits

First of all, you can use ROTBAND putties (dry or liquid), but always on a cement or acrylic base - gypsum or latex components do not resist moisture well.

Such mixtures are widely used for plastering the facades of buildings, that is, for outdoor work, therefore they easily tolerate a variety of natural environmental conditions (each package or bucket must have instructions for use given by the manufacturer).

In addition to various Rotbands, there are a number of sanitizing plasters that have two very important qualities for a bathroom - porosity and hydrophobicity. That is, such a mixture, combining these features, does not leave moisture or condensation on the surface, which is constantly formed in such rooms. At the same time, such a solution is not a sealant, so it needs a solid base, but more on that later.

Finishing work

The tool in this case is not decisive, because you, in fact, destroy the surface, only you need to do this with directed movements and then the whole picture will look whole.

Grout "Bark beetle"

Also for plastering you can use the famous "Bark beetle", where the pattern is created by the directionality of the movements during grouting. Usually three options are used - this is a circular, horizontal or vertical grout - small pebbles in the powder create grooves and grooves, forming a general pattern.

Conclusion

Any decorative plaster for the bathroom: with your own hands is nothing more than a flight of your imagination, so any design advice is hardly appropriate here. You can simply say that after applying it, some use different stencils (with a smoothly rubbed surface) for painting, and some paint it in their favorite colors and shades.

In addition, when the walls are covered with wax paints, they acquire a patina tint and repel moisture. Good luck!
