Sealing the space between the bathroom and the wall

  • Sealing gaps of different widths
  • Fundamental rules

Using a bathroom that is not installed close to the wall can lead to underfloor heating of the lower floors. Therefore, the question of how to seal a bathtub with a wall is one of the most important when equipping a bathroom.

The bath is sealed to prevent mold and water from leaking to the lower floors.

It is necessary to eliminate this deficiency as soon as possible, otherwise mold and mildew will form in the room, which have an extremely negative effect on the health of the residents.

Sealing gaps of different widths

Leaky slots can be of different widths, for each case, different methods of eliminating unwanted gaps are applicable.

To perform these works (depending on the width of the gap), you may need the following materials and tools:

  • special sealants;
  • silicone glue;
  • plastic corners;
  • self-adhesive borders or plastic skirting boards;
  • concrete mix;
  • fittings;
  • tile;
  • miter box;
  • puncher.

To carry out these works correctly, first of all, you need to install the bath in such a way that it does not wobble and is fixed as best as possible. Otherwise, all actions to seal the gap will be useless. Additional holding brackets can help you with this, which must be glued to the floor with a special sealant.

If the space between the bathroom and the wall is not more than 3 mm, then it can be sealed with special means - silicone-based sealants. A special assembly gun will help you to perform this work qualitatively. Apply sealant to the crevice and smooth it out with a rag.

To seal the bathtub if the gap reaches 10 mm, use additional trim material. A decorative plastic corner is suitable, the ends of which must first be filed at 45 °. The corner must be glued to the base of the bathroom with silicone glue or similar. And then the part of the corner perpendicular to the base is glued to the wall.

If the gap between the bathroom and the wall fluctuates between 10-30 mm, then the same methods as for smaller spaces will not work for you. A suitable method in this case is special curbs or plastic skirting boards. Such elements are glued using silicone glue or an adhesive coating applied in the factory. The most difficult thing is to fix these elements in the required position. To facilitate this task, you need to glue the curbs or skirting boards sequentially - first to the base of the bathroom, then to the wall.

Sealing a bathtub with a wall if the distance between them is larger requires more complex work. The following actions will provide the optimal result: in the free space you need to install the formwork, then fill it with building concrete, after the concrete has hardened, the surface must be finished with tiles. The result is a neat and practical shelf that can be used for hygiene products.
